The brief

Great British Kitchens & Interiors is a thriving, high end, bespoke kitchen and furniture company in Sevenoaks, Kent.

They came to us in late 2018 because their Google ranking had dropped following their move to a new website provider. This was having a significant impact on the number of new enquiries they received.

For example, if someone searched Google for “Sevenoaks kitchens” they were only appearing in position 8 of the search results.

They wanted to reverse this trend and get back to the top of Google with a focus on their most profitable local areas.

The solution

Our first step was to replace their website with a new one which performed better technically and provided an enhanced user experience. This included optimising the website for their key search terms.

We then began a long-term content development plan, prioritising longer, magazine-style case studies to target specific locations.

In addition, we produced more content about their products and services. This included glossary-style articles aimed at capturing ‘featured snippet’ positions. Plus, we wrote detailed content about the appliances they supply, such as BORA hobs.

For each piece of new content, we also wrote social media posts, bolstering their in-house social media activity.

We complemented our SEO work with strategically-focused Google Ads. These targeted specific locations and were finely tuned to only appear when someone made a relevant search.

For example, if someone in Sevenoaks searched for an “Ikea kitchen” the adverts wouldn’t appear. This purchaser is unlikely to have the budget for a bespoke kitchen, therefore any advert clicks would be a waste of money.

As a result of our work, Great British Kitchens & Interiors now rank as follows for their core local search terms:

  • Sevenoaks kitchens – moved from position 8 to position 1
  • kitchens Sevenoaks – moved from position 7 to position 1

In addition, our work to target content at specific locations has put them in Google’s top 10 results for searches in other locations, including Bromley, Orpington and South London.

Strengthened position when people search for kitchen appliances

Our development of appliance-related content has ensured that Great British Kitchens & Interiors rank equally highly when someone searches for their brands. For example, they perform excellently when someone in their area Googles “Miele stockists Sevenoaks” or “Quooker supplier Kent”.

BORA

Of particular note is our work on a search strategy to increase Great British Kitchens & Interiors’ visibility when people are searching for BORA extractor hoods and cooktops.

Over the last few years we have added lots of BORA related content.

Google now sees Great British Kitchens & Interiors as a real authority on BORA, so much so that we have achieved exceptional national search success:

Long-tail search

Our long-term strategy of developing high quality content has attained the top Google position for a wide range of more niche search terms. We have also achieved featured snippet status for searches including “Waterfall edge” and “What is an upstand”.

While people searching for these generic topics might not be potential customers, all this work helps to demonstrate the website’s authority and expertise to Google. This means that, when someone with buyer intent does search for “Sevenoaks kitchens”, Google knows that Great British Kitchens & Interior’s website is the best one to display.

Google Ads

Our successful Google Ads strategy gave them an immediate and highly controllable presence across their catchment area. We now manage this strategically to target specific locations where we have not yet achieved SEO dominance.

A few years after the new website launch, Great British Kitchens & Interiors expanded into handmade furniture.

Great British Kitchens & Interiors have achieved a fantastic position in the online marketplace, making it and it will be very hard for competitors to attempt to knock them off this top spot.
